Well, there we have it.
46 – 12 on a sunny day at Mt Smart. We were carved up by an absolutely rampant Rosters outfit. Beaten in every way.
I didn’t know what to write yesterday….and to be honest I’m still not sure what to say. We were outplayed in pretty much every way. This was easily the worst performance the Warriors have pieced together since Cappy took over – and it leaves our chances of a finals appearance hanging in the balance.
The game started brightly enough. We had about 65% possession, a 100% completion rate, and Ngani Laumape outjumped the 6’5 Daniel Tupou (yea – you read that right) to square it all up on
The Warriors were threatening to put up a performance like this. As they hit struggle town against the Sharks and failed to overcome the Knights...
the scoreboard…and then we disintegrated. Sure, we lost Fusitu'a early and a few other boys looked like they were being held together with tape but I didn't expect the damage to be as bad as it was. By the end of that first half the boys looked dead on their feet.
The Roosters dominated possession, territory, meters…pretty much every stat that counted. When we got a rare chance they stood strong and defended well. Even when we bagged a consolation try they decided they were not having a bar of it and struck right back.
This was bad both for our competition points and our points differential.
It was the last thing we needed.
The Warriors were threatening to put up a performance like this. As they hit struggle town against the Sharks and failed to overcome the Knights, their form was not where it needed to be coming up against the reigning, albeit inconsistent, premiers.
With two games left we need to find a way back up this slope. A loss against the Titans or Panthers could spell the end of our season – and mark another year outside the top eight.
I’m keeping the faith – there is far more to this team than what we saw on Sunday!
Mercifully we face the Titans next – a team that is on the wrong end of a five game losing streak. A big performance in their last home game at Mt Smart will hopefully give the Warriors the boost they need before they face the seemingly indestructible Panthers in the final round of the season.
This is going to be a rebuilding week for the Warriors. Hopefully Cappy can work his magic to get this team firing again.
I’m keeping the faith – there is far more to this team than what we saw on Sunday!
Here are the highlights – if you can bear to watch them…
Do you still see the Warriors making the Top 8?
