Warriors NRL doctor John Mayhew is in hospital, reportedly in an induced coma after he collapsed following an exercise class.

He was taken to hospital on Tuesday night, NZME reported.

Mayhew has worked with various sports, was the All Blacks doctor for 131 Tests over 15 years and has been with the Auckland-based rugby league club for most of the past decade.

He was given an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit last week for his services to sports medicine.

Warriors managing director Jim Doyle declined to comment on Mayhew's health, saying it was a family matter.
